I also place great value on the mental, phsyical and emotional benefit of having a dog in a person's life, and the importance
of creating the most harmonious, balanced relationship between the person and the dog. We bring a dog into our lives to
enrich our lives; it serves ourselves and our dogs to enhance this relationship by teaching our dogs how we want them to
behave and what we expect from them. It is a dog's nature to follow our lead when we provide clear, positive leadership. By
establishing this natural relationship with our dogs, we are able to fully enjoy one of the most rewarding relationships we will
have in our lives. This value system is why I offer, to people who would like assistance establishing such a relationship with
their dog, canine counseling and dog training consultations. Everyone is capable of being a good dog trainer.
A natural extension to my service is travel care for dogs that participate in adventure outings. Private, personalized,
cage free dog boarding in my house is available on a limited basis. Such service provides for the minimum interruption to the
dog's routine. While dogs are adaptable creatures, they function best with familiar, established routines. And being cared for
by someone they know, while their person or people travel, allows them to maintain a comforting routine during this absence.
By offering my full time Dog Day Adventures! service, incorporating outings, cage free dog boarding, canine counseling
and dog training consultations, I am able to provide a valuable service that is a safe and reliable alternative to traditional
dog walking services, pet sitting services, dog daycare, cage dog kenneling, or group dog training.
Dog Day Adventures! is a licensed business, bonded and fully insured. I am pet first aid and CPR certified.
I am a member of the Humane Society of Southern Arizona and do volunteer dog walking and training for the Tucson office,
and am also a member of APDT ( Association of Pet Dog Trainers), PSI (Pet Sitters International), and PUPS (Professonial
United Pet Sitters). I have attended numerous dog training and dog behavior workshops and am continually educating
myself in the current and accepted methodologies and theories regarding canine behavior and training and how humans
and dogs relate to each other. I use positive reinforcement techniques that utlilize praise, rewards, consistency, and timing
to foster trust and comprehension in the dog's mind; I do not use any harsh, abusive or violent techniques.
I have lived with dogs most of my life. Over the years, I have trained all of my own dogs and assisted or advised many
friends and family. During much of my working life, my dogs have accompanied me at work. Dog Day Adventures!
is the culmination of incorporating my avocation into my vocation.
Currently, our staff consists of myself and "Scout". In the future, as our client base grows, we will add a few carefully
selected, equally experienced and "dog dedicated" dog trainers and handlers. Scout accompanies me during the adventure
outings and to the "meet and greet" appointments with new clients. I rely on her input to determine if a dog will enjoy
participating in group outings; she is well balanced and socialized, neither too dominant or submissive, and therefore is a
good indicator of another dog's suitability to group interaction. While this is an unpaid and voluntary position for her, she is
always a willing and cheerful participant and has steadfastly refused any monetary compensation.
